Back in the year 1962 a couple of leading figures met in the Styrian capital Graz and decided to found the 1st Styrian Golfclub Murhof. At that time no one from the founding members could foresee the importance of that milestone.
About 50 years later the GC Murhof is the Austrian golf course with the biggest international reputation. Reason for that is a long list of international events that have been staged on this 18-holes Championship Course. It all began in the seventies with the European Junior Championship in 1976. In 1988 Colin Montgomerie was playing at Murhof in the European Men Team Championship. The big events for the ladies started in 1998. Three years in a row the Ladies Austrian Golf Open have been staged at Murhof and Laura Davies, Trish Johnson and many more played in these events. Famous names played also in the 2000 European Men Championship. Carl Pettersson won and Graeme McDowell and Paul Casey were ranked 3rd and 6th. In 2001 the European Challenge Tour was played at Murhof an Austrian Golf legend Markus Brier started his international career with his first win on home soil. From 2004 to 2006 GC Murhof hosted the European Young Masters. Amongst these talents was a small Irish guy who became 4th in 2004. His name? Rory McIlroy.
The last international tournament played in Styria was the European Ladies Amateur Championship in 2015. So you see the Murhof is a great soil for big events and big talents.
